UK jobs market shakes off Brexit jitters as employment hits fresh high

According to official figures, there are more people in work than ever before. Employment rose by 174,000 to 31.77m in the three months to July, according to the Office for National Statistics, the highest level since records began more than 40 years ago.

Working age employment stood at nearly 25% in the quarter to July while the jobless rate remained at an 11-year low of below 5%.

The number of vacancies in the quarter to August edged up 752,000.
